On behalf of the Parade College Leadership Team, I would like to welcome back all members of the Parade College community for the upcoming 2025 academic year. I hope all of our Parade families have enjoyed a lovely and safe summer holiday period with family, friends and loved ones. Hopefully this time of the year has been a time to rest and create some long-lasting memories. I am sure that many of our students are eager to return to catch up with their friends and teachers, and possibly families are also looking forward to the students returning to school on a daily basis.
A sincere welcome to all of our new students in 2025 and their families. We have our new Year 7 students commencing, along with a number of new students in Years 8 to 12. There will be lots of emotions that come with commencing at a new school, and those emotions will range from being totally excited, to a little nervous and apprehensive. Please be assured that all of our staff are looking forward to supporting our new students so that they can have a rewarding and memorable journey at Parade. There are so many opportunities for students to get involved in various activities, clubs and events and I encourage our students to seize the moment and give new things a go. This will ensure our students are participating in activities with students that have similar interests and will provide opportunities to further develop friendships and of course make new ones.
This year we welcome full-time female enrolments to our Preston Campus. Our new students at Year 11 are part of our VCE Vocational Major programs and will be able to combine their career interests in sport and trade, as part of their VCE studies. We welcome these students and their families to the Parade College family and trust they will be welcomed with open arms into our community.
In 2025, our College Theme will again be: Walking Together – Relationships, Respect, Resilience.
We will continue to emphasise the importance of RESPECT in all that we do.
We were all called to travel on the same road and in the same direction, to stay together, both outwardly and inwardly.
Ephesians 4:1:6
4 … to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, 2 ….making every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
This prayer of unity calls us to live as one in a world where all people are woven together. As a Parade College community, we celebrate the individual spirit of each of us, and strive to always work and walk together in partnership, with respect, resilience, and valuing relationships.
The College theme highlights the importance of working together in a shared partnership – students, their families and our staff. Our common goal at Parade is to ensure that all of our students and staff can thrive in a caring and loving community, so that they can be the very best versions of themselves, driving themselves and each other to become better human beings, to achieve their goals and dreams, and to make the lives of those around them much richer. It is through respect for ourselves and others, that we can truly create a culture where everyone is appreciated and valued. When respect becomes the major focus in our interactions with others, everyone has the opportunity to thrive and succeed and achieve to their full potential. We look forward to our students driving this culture of respect.
Congratulations to the Class of 2024 and their dedicated teachers for achieving excellent VCE and VCE Vocational Major results. Whether the next step on their journey be to university, TAFE, apprenticeships or to work, they will be better for facing the challenges of the year and overcoming them successfully. Our 2024 VCE results reflect the hard work of the students in collaboration with their teachers and support from their families.
We thank and commend the Class of 2024 on the contribution they have made to Parade College over the past six years in all endeavours that they have pursued. Their leadership, service to others and their contribution to the co-curricular life of the College have added to the richness of our community.
Congratulations to our College Dux, Julian Borg, and to Lucas Ackar, our Outstanding Senior VCE Vocational Major Student for 2024.
We are honoured to acknowledge the outstanding achievements of our students in the VCE and VCE Vocational Major. Their dedication and hard work was rewarded, and we couldn't be more proud of each and every one of our students. As they embark on their chosen pathways, we wish them all the best for a bright and successful future.
For the class of 2024, we are delighted to announce and publish the VCE students that achieved an ATAR score above 90, a testament to their exceptional academic performances. Congratulations to the following students:

On Thursday 12 December, the Year 12 results were released to all students. Very early that morning a few of our high achieving students were greeted on site at our Bundoora campus by Channel 7 reporter, Andrew McCormack, from Channel 7’s morning show, Sunrise. The students were brave enough to open their emails containing their VCE results, live on television, where their initial reactions were captured. It was lovely to chat to the students, after the cameras switched off, and they were all so happy with the results they achieved. Some of their parents were there to capture their reactions firsthand.

Anthony Glatzel, Logistics Coordinator, has allocated students to the various College bus services. All students using services to or from the College direct must have a current College bus pass and/or MYKI card.
Traffic will be very heavy on the College property on the first few days of school, both in the mornings and afternoons. If you wish to drop off your child, please come early.
Parents/carers who wish to park should do so only in designated car parks, well off the roadways, and cooperate with instructions from College parking officials. Please take note of all of the parking/drop off signs along the driveway at the Bundoora Campus. The majority of car park spaces are allocated to our staff and parking bays for staff are numbered. Visitor car parking is denoted by the relevant signs to the left of the main driveway to our Bundoora Campus.
Students cannot be dropped off within the main College bus circuit near College Admin Reception. This area is reserved for College buses and designated staff parking bays.
We kindly ask that all drivers be attentive to students crossing the roadway and to give way at designated crossings.
This Newsletter is our major means of communication with parents and families, so please ensure that you take the time to read it. In 2025, we will be producing the Newsletter once a month and it will be sent out electronically.
Parents/cares/families are urged to ensure that we have their current preferred email address to receive the Newsletter. Please advise Reception immediately of any change of residential or email addresses and phone numbers.
The Newsletter is always available on the College website. Hard copies are available for collection at Reception at both campuses for anyone unable to access the Newsletter electronically.
We wish you all the very best for the year ahead and look forward to meeting you throughout the year.
To our students and their families, we extend a warm welcome to the new school year. Especially to our new Year 7 students, who are commencing their secondary education and all other students new to the College. 2025 is a historic year for Parade with our VCE Vocational Major Preston Campus commencing co-educational classes. For our Year 12 students, 2025 marks the final chapter of their secondary schooling and we wish them all the very best for the year ahead and trust that their efforts will lead to successful outcomes. Parade prides itself on being an inclusive school, embracing a diverse student body. We encourage every student, across all year levels, to fully engage with the opportunities at their disposal.
The Academic High Achiever Award acknowledges students’ academic achievement over the whole of 2024 and were handed out to students at the final Year Level assembly for 2024. The Academic High Achiever Award was awarded to the students within each year level that achieved the highest overall assessment grades across all subjects over both semesters. Students that achieved the highest three scores were identified. In each year level there are minimum of three students that are bestowed the award, but depending on grades achieved, there may be more than three. The Academic High Achiever Awards are intended to acknowledge the excellence that exists within each Year Level. The 2024 winners in alphabetical order by surname were:

As we commence the new school year, we want to remind families who have not yet finalised their child's resource list to do so as soon as possible to avoid any impact on their learning. Resource lists were emailed to families and are also available online at Campion Education. To place your orders, please visit Campion’s website and use the following codes:
Bundoora Campus: XK72
Preston Campus: QKGK
For students enrolled in VCE Unit 1 and 2 or Unit 3 and 4 subjects requiring an Edrolo textbook and/or digital subscription, payments must be made via the Edrolo payment portal. These subjects are clearly indicated on the resource list.
All other Year 7 to 12 digital resources listed on your child’s resource list must be ordered and paid for through Campion Education.
Student timetables are built around maximising students’ elective choices. At the end of Semester 2 in June, when students change their electives, many students may also have a change of teacher for some of their yearlong subjects.
As student programs become more elective-based, they understand that these changes become more necessary to accommodate their elective selections. As such, except for compelling cases, students are not able to make changes to their elective or core subjects. Finding a subject no longer enjoyable, or discovering it to be more challenging than expected, are not considered compelling reasons for making changes to elective subjects.
In such situations, students and their families should work with their child’s teachers to support them with their learning.
All Year 12 students (VCE, VCE VM, and Sports Academy) will launch into their 2025 school year with a fantastic opening day at La Trobe University on Thursday 30 January. Guest presenters, past students, and staff from both La Trobe University and Parade College will run a day that caters to all students in the Class of 2025.
This is a compulsory event for all Year 12 students, with the correct summer school uniform to be worn. Students are asked to arrive at La Trobe University by 8:30am. Students will need to make their own way to La Trobe University (Plenty Rd). Morning tea will be supplied. The day will conclude by 12:45pm, and students will be dismissed from the University.
We see this as a fantastic way to kickstart this very important year of schooling. Additional information was sent to families at the end of 2024, and will be resent just prior to the event.
This year, the VCE Parent Information Evening will be run in conjunction with the Parent Tutor Evening. Parents will have the opportunity to view an information session regarding VCE that will be held during the staff dinner break in the Rivergum Theatre. More information, with the exact timing of the presentation, will be available closer to the event.
This forum will provide an opportunity to be fully informed about the requirements and expectations of VCE. The evening is applicable to all parents with a student in Units 1 to 4 of any VCE subject.
Since 2007, the University of Melbourne has offered the Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program, an academic enrichment program designed to support high-achieving secondary students. The program was offered to Year 11 students in 2025, who had to complete a rigorous application process that the University of Melbourne critiqued, and then selected the successful applicants from around the state.
This year the University of Melbourne has accepted Year 11 Orlando Pettinella T07 into the program. We congratulate Orlando on this achievement. There were several fine applications from Parade students and all applicants are to be commended on the standard of their application.
Year 9 students will continue with their first Extended Learning Project (ELP) on Wednesday 5 February. Families should be aware that ExCEL classes may be timetabled at either the Bundoora or Preston Campus and that changes to ExCEL subjects are not able to be made throughout the year.
Year 9 students may wear their sports uniform on ExCEL days and should ensure that they are at the correct campus in time for Tutor Group.
Families can identify which Campus their child’s ExCEL subject is based at from the room number on their child's SIMON timetable. Rooms commencing with ‘R’ or ‘K’ are located at the Preston Campus (eg, R14, K17) while all other room codes are located at the Bundoora Campus.
Welcome back to existing families and a very warm welcome to our new families joining Parade College in 2025! We look forward to getting to know you all throughout the year and wish all our students a smooth transition back to school life after their summer holidays!
There are so many things to discover and try at Parade College, and we hope your child find their interests and passions and follow them during their journey with us. We encourage you to remind your child to check the Student Bulletin each day for news about clubs, activities and promotions right across the College! This will help to make their secondary school experience personal. The best advice we can give our newest members of the College is to take advantage of all opportunities they are offered as this will help with the transition, making new friends and connecting to the College on many different levels.
Our newest Paradians attended the Orientation Sessions for the 2025 Year 7 students in December last year. Tutor Teachers and House Leaders had a great time getting to know their students and enjoyed their company. We hope our Year 7 students’ first day on Friday 31 January is equally as exciting and reassuring for them.
We know transition to a new school can be a time of great trepidation for students and their families, so here are some important upcoming events and dates for the beginning of the 2025 year.
Please remember we are all here to assist and your child’s Tutor Teacher and House Leader are a wealth of information should you have any concerns or questions.
Friday 31 January - 8:35am to 3:15pm
The Year 7 students will meet Friday 31 January at 8:35am in Moore Hall. Parents/Carers who are driving their child, please safely drop them off in the designated drop-off areas and they will be met by a member of staff who will guide them to Moore Hall. Please be guided by the traffic wardens on the day.
Friday 31 January 2.25pm to 3.15pm
On the first day we have the Fáilte (Welcome) Liturgy, where we recognise Year 7 and Year 12 mentors. This Liturgy welcomes our newest Paradians, recognises their work with their Year 12 mentor, and begins the process of handing on the traditions of our College.
Year 7 parents/carers are very welcome to join the students and staff for this in Moore Hall at Bundoora. Please arrive early to ensure we can begin on time. The Liturgy will begin at 2:25pm and conclude at 3:15pm. All Year 7 students will then be dismissed and able to head home with parents or on the buses/trains/trams.
On Thursday 13 February, parents/carers will be able to meet with their child’s Tutor Teacher and attend an information session with their child’s House Leader which will cover the details of the Year 7 Camp in March.
These events will be held on Thursday 13 February. A letter containing details about how to book the interview appointment with the Tutor Teacher for your Year 7 child (and your children in other year levels) and the times of the Year 7 Camp Information Sessions will be emailed home in the coming weeks – please check your email for this letter.
At Parade, we value being on time and prepared, as it is respectful of others and allows the things that we need to do to get done so that we can move on to the things we enjoy.
We have highlighted some key dates for the first few weeks so that all families can plan in advance
Friday 31 January - All Year 7, 11, and 12 students and all students at Preston campus.
8:30am - Arrival and Tutor Group
3:15pm - Finish for 7, 11 and 12 students

At Parade, we value the tradition of wearing the College uniform respectfully to honour all Old Paradians who have worn the purple, green and blue with pride and respect over the last 150 years.
All families received updated communication regarding the College’s expectations regarding the correct wearing of uniform and their general appearance.
All day absences must be recorded on PAM (Parent Access Module) each morning students are away. If no reason is given, parents will be sent a text message around 11:30am reminding them to log into PAM to record the reason for your child’s absence.
Late arrivals and early departures must be recorded by families through PAM. There is no absence phone line, and students signing in late or leaving early will need to have had this recorded on PAM in advance. This will ensure our records are accurate.
If your child is arriving late or leaving early, this needs to be recorded on PAM as mentioned above. This can be found in the same place where “All Day” absences are recorded.
Once you click on the Parent Notified Absences icon, you will click arriving late or leaving early (see below). Once submitted this entry appears on your child’s electronic roll and alerts Student Services. There is no need to provide a handwritten note.
Your child will simply head to Student Services to officially sign in/out.
Please ensure your child does not have access to your PAM account. If you have forgotten your password, need an account reset or your child has access to your account please contact pamsupport@parade.vic.edu.au
Instructions on how to book appointments and the times of the information sessions will be emailed home to families in the coming weeks.

As parents/carers, ensuring our children have the best possible start to their school day is essential. A well-balanced breakfast and lunch can significantly impact their concentration, energy levels, and overall academic performance. Providing nutritious meals is not just about what they eat; it is about giving them the fuel they need to thrive both physically and mentally. Breakfast plays a crucial role in your child's health and learning. A nutritious breakfast provides the energy needed to stay alert and focused during morning classes. Studies have shown that children who eat breakfast regularly perform better academically.
Lunch is another key meal that should not be overlooked. A balanced lunch can help your child maintain energy throughout the afternoon, supporting their ability to learn and play.
In conclusion, a nutritious breakfast and lunch are vital for your child’s success at school. By filling their plates with healthy options, you will be giving them the fuel they need to focus, learn, and engage throughout the school day. With a little planning and creativity, you can help your child develop healthy eating habits that will benefit them for life.

As the new Learning Centre Leader, I welcome back all the usual students and staff, and warmly welcome all newcomers. Join the Parade Reading Challenge, join an existing club, suggest a new one, or take part in some of the new initiatives available through the Nash Learning Centre such as the Schools On Air or the Parade Now! Podcast.
In 2025, we continue to invite the whole Parade Community to get involved in the Parade Reading Challenge, powered by Beanstack. Beanstack is a digital reading logger where your reading will award you Digital Badges, House Points, and prizes! Major winners this year will be awarded Steam, JB-HiFi, or Dymocks gift cards.

Traffic will be very heavy on the College property on the first few days of school, both in the mornings and afternoons. If you wish to drop off your child, please come early.
Parents/carers who wish to park should do so only in designated car parks, well off the roadways, and cooperate with instructions from College parking officials.

Monday 3 February - All Year Levels
8:30am - Arrival and Tutor Group

A change in leadership, but all the same fun and excitement. A huge thanks goes out to Mr Dante Gabriele, the outgoing Learning Centre Leader.
Year 7 and 8 students are automatically enrolled in Beanstack, with students in Years 9 to 12, teachers, and staff members invited to enrol via the Learning Centre Homepage. All reading counts towards your House. Using Beanstack is easy – just log in, add, or scan in your book, and add how much time you have spent reading. It can be updated every time you read.
Live leaderboards total the reading per class, year level, and across the school, and bonus time is awarded for completing weekly challenges. All instructions, rewards, and challenges will be found on the Learning Centre Homepage, SIMON Daily Messages, and PAM.
Nearly all types of reading and listening to audiobooks count so we invite you to get reading 20+ minutes a day. At Parade, Reading Matters.
We continue to offer daily lunchtime clubs in the Nash Learning Centre, and this year our offerings include:
Year 7 Lego Club: Every day at lunchtime at the start of Term 1, Year 7s are invited to the Bunjil Room, ground floor in the NLC, to play with Lego, socialise, and have some fun!
Tabletop Roleplaying Game Club: This club continues in 2025, where students interested in Dungeons and Dragons, Yu-gi-oh!, Magic the Gathering, and other tabletop roleplaying games are welcome to meet, discuss, and play, all in a supportive and passionate learning environment. All interests and skill levels are welcome.
Card Games Club: This club is new in 2025, where students can play or learn card games such as UNO, Monopoly Deal, Skip Bo, Phase 10, Exploding Kittens or bring your own! All interests and skill levels are welcome.
Photography Club: This club is new in 2025, where students interested in learning the basics or extending their existing skills using digital SLR cameras, all in a supportive and passionate learning environment. All equipment provided. All interests and skill levels are welcome.

Outside of class time, the NLC continues to be open before school from 7:45am, recess, lunch, and after school, as a wonderful place to read, complete homework, socialise, and take part in our clubs and activities.
This year, at recess and lunchtime, the ground floor of the NLC will be open for students to read, complete homework, meet with teachers, and study quietly. Our knowledgeable librarians and NLC staff are there to help you! Upstairs NLC is now for all other use.

Students who have applied for a 2025 bus service, including 2025 enrolments, will receive a letter confirming their bus route/routes.
This letter may be used to catch buses during the first week of school. Temporary Bus Passes will be handed out by Tutor Teachers at commencement of on-site classes. Temporary bus passes are replaced by the Student ID card when issued later in Term 1.
